5 Screw Transition. An early post-war 32 Regulation Police, made just like the pre-war except for the coil spring and straight ejector rod. The coil mainspring makes this an Improved I frame. 4 line address. 5 screw with the stepped backstrap for the extension square butt stocks. Mild muzzle wear, storage marks on one side of cyl, and some mild drawer scratches on other sides of cyl. Tiny blem on side of barrel, and a small blem on trigger guard. Perfect bore and action. The proper extension grips were not fitted on these post-war guns, so they are not numbered. A very decent little gun. |

Factory Letter- shipped Nov 5, 1958 to Kirtland Bros Co., Inc, in NYC. An INTERESTING Chiefs Special. It belonged to Jan Murray, a notable celeb of the 50’s who hung out with the rat pack. Jan gave the gun to his good friend, Buddy Hackett. Sideplate is inscribed in 7 lines – “To / Jan Murray / From / M.B. Police / & / Firemen / 1959”. Miami Beach?? This is a factory nickel gun that was gold plated after the inscription. Hammer, trigger, and extractor were not plated. It wears a beautiful set of real and very fiery pearl grips. Flat Latch. Collectors Firearms in Houston purchased the Hackett estate in 2003, and a letter from them documents that. Another letter from the Beinfeld / Lawman Gallery also attests to these facts. All documents included. The gold is smooth and evenly worn. The grips are perfect. |

1905- 1st Change. Unusual caliber marking: + S. & W. 38 MIL + I have never seen that marking on an M&P this late before. Chambers 38 Special. Only about 11,000 First Changes were made. Above 90% original Bright blue with some very small scattered patches of rust. Some handling dings- the worst being on that unusual caliber marking on the barrel, but completely legible. Has the mushroom style case colored ejector knob. Original black rubber grips with matching number still show the tiny patent date, having almost no wear. NICE, unusual 1905- 1st with great eye appeal. |

3 Documents- a Letter from Springfield Research Service, a Copy of the Navy Memo authorizing the purchase of the revolvers, and a copy of a Letter from Bethlehem Steel acknowledging receipt in Oct, 1941 of this and 35 other revolvers for the Ship Building Division. The navy authorized the purchase of 3000 revolvers to arm the U.S.N. Civilian Police Corps to protect Shipyards and docks with WW II looming. This gun rates about 90% with blue loss on barrel and gripstraps. Marked “U.S.N.C.P.C.” on the backstrap. Butt Swivel. Proper checkered grips show wear and are not numbered to gun. Perfect bore and action. I do not believe all 3000 were delivered to the Navy- they are RARELY seen! I have never seen but three, including this one. |

Late Pre-War M&P that still shows the high 1930’s standards with the same high polish seen on Reg Mags. Mild muzzle and edge wear with no real handling marks to describe. Early WW II Era M&P that shows the transition to wartime standards. ALL numbers match, including grips. This gun and the gun above make an interesting pair. The polish on this one is more like a satin finish when compared to the above gun, and shows less care. The grips are American walnut and don’t show the precise checkering of earlier grips. A nice gun with moderate muzzle and edge wear and scattered light handling marks. The grips have some mild dings. Perfect action and bore. |

Very Early Model 1905- 4th Change Target. Probably a first year gun from 1915. Neal & Jinks says that the hammer block was added to the 4th change service models from the beginning of the 4th change in 1915, but NOT to Target models till 1926. Yet this gun has a hammer block! A very pretty gun. Completely original with U notch and plain blue bead. Light muzzle and edge wear. This early 05-4th does not have grooved tangs, and there is some moderate browning of the blue on backstrap. Strong and vivid case colors. Beautiful circassian grips with gold medallions are original. Perfect bore and action. There is a match head size ding on front of trigger guard beside screw where blue is missing. Very eye appealing gun. Early 4th Targets are hard to find in high condition. |

Model 1905- 4th Change Target. ALL numbers match on this early 30’s Target including the silver medallion grips. This early 30’s gun has the adjustable sight with only one screw at the top rear- no check elevation screw. This gun has a very stylish and attractive monogram plate screwed to the grips on the butt with the initials “D.K.S.” or “K.Y.S.” ??? They are very stylized, and I cannot be sure which letters they are. At a show, a dealer had a good array of target guns from the same estate comprised of S&W’s, Colts, and other brands. All had the same monogram plate on the butts. He would not tell me the family name. Unfortunately, the guns had been poorly stored and lacked condition. This one was worth acquiring. It has light muzzle wear. No real dings, scratches, or handling marks, BUT- it also has some storage damage. There are some brown splotches on lower half of sideplate from the grip mainly toward the trigger. There are a few freckles on left side near top of grip. The grooved backstrap shows blue loss. Perfect bore and action. Grips are nice with beautiful medallions. Since this man had a large array of target guns, I bet it shoots! Interesting gun. If not for the flaws described, I would price this gun around $1500. |

Factory Letter- shipped Oct 6, 1955 to Ratley Milam Hardware Co., Miami, FL. There were 20 units in this exact configuration, so I’ll speculate that it was a Law Enforcement order. Nickel Pre-15’s are extremely rare. ALL numbers match, including the magna grips. Nickel is very decent as visible to the eye. It is worn through at the left muzzle, and there are some freckles below the thumb latch. There is some pitting under the grips, and some tiny spots are visible at top edges of grips. The grooved tangs show some dark spots. Hammer, trigger, and front ramp are freckled. Miami, remember. STILL a very presentable rare variant. |

Factory Letter- shipped May 15, 1936 to Charles A. Bogard, Sandusky, OH, 5 inch, Blue, 1/10 Patridge, Square Notch, Magnas, with EXTRA pair of Magnas. I believe it to be the original finish, but it has two frame dates- 5.47 and 12.52 with a star on the butt THROUGH the blue. It is in the original configuration as shipped. Perhaps the star and dates indicate only factory service or sight changes- the front sight pin appears to have been driven. All numbers match on metal parts with no diamonds. Since the records for 1935-40 have now been digitized, we now know that many Reg Mag’s were returned for “tuning and tweaking”. It is a decent used gun, showing muzzle and edge wear and light handling marks. There are four small spots of finish loss on left side of frame, and several small spots on right side. Good case colors. It shows fairly heavy shooting, but has a smooth and sound action. The Magnas are very decent and fit well, but never had a number, so they may be the extra pair. |

Factory Letter- Shipped June 14, 1930 to Wolf & Klar in Ft. Worth. It has the scarce 4 inch barrel and wears the original silver medallion service grips numbered to the gun. This gun is one of the best reblues I have ever seen. It is better than some factory reblues and is hard to tell from an original. There are no markings to indicate the reblue. Markings are strong and sharp, with only the caliber marking being a little thin in the center. Case colors are strong and vivid and 100%. There are one or two handling marks, but virtually no wear on the blue. Only a trace cyl ring. Grips are expertly refinished also, but retain some small stains on back edges. Bore is bright and shiny, but has some trace frosty pitting that is very hard to see. Appers to be fired very little since reblue. Pretty gun! |

This gun shows hardly any use or finish wear, BUT has numerous tiny pinpoint freckles along the edges of the frame, guard, and cyl flutes, and on the backstrap. A Round Top Brazilian 1917 from the 1946 contract. No eagle head stamps on this one. Very high condition for a Brazilian! ALL numbers match including grips. Mild muzzle and edge wear with numerous handling marks as is common. There are a few scattered traces of light pitting from poor storage. The import mark is on bottom of barrel covered by ejector rod and the serial number is still legible. Original smooth grips number to the gun. They are poorly fitted, so I guess they threw them together for this order. The gun appears to be fired very little with a shiny bore that shows light frosting in rear half. Great action. A Round Top Brazilian 1917 from the 1946 contract. Eagle head on cyl and frame. Very high condition for a Brazilian- even better than the gun above! ALL numbers match on metal parts. Extremely mild wear with the usual numerous handling marks. A few scattered freckles. It appears virtually unfired with a perfect bore. The import mark is under the grips. The proper smooth grips have no number. Perhaps the best 1946 example you will ever see. |

One of less than 1000 Mod 1917’s built after WW II with the modern hammer block. Some of these have the S prefix, and some, like this one DO NOT. The modern hammer block is clearly visible in the gun. ALL numbers match, including grips. Something (blood?) splattered on the gun leaving spots without blue that now show as smooth gray metal. Mainly down right side, with some tiny spots on left. Nice bore and action. RARE variant. |

5 Screw, Pre Model 21. The 1950 Model 44 Military. 1 of 1200. Factory Letter- Shipped May 3, 1955 to Berns Wholesale Co. in Denver. A decent gun with light to moderate honest wear in the normal places- muzzle, edges, side of cyl, and gripstraps. There is some noticeable freckling around one cyl flute, right edge of trigger guard, and right lower edge of frame, along with a small spot on sideplate. The front sight has been very neatly ramped and serrated. Trigger serrations have been polished smooth, but some case colors remain on sides. Perfect bore and fabulous action. This will make a great shooter/toter. The mint, correct diamond magnas are not numbered to the gun. |

5 Screw, Pre Model 21. The 1950 Model 44 Military. 1 of 1200. Factory Letter- Shipped April 1, 1955 to Boswick Braun Co., Toledo, Ohio. No box, but worthy of one! I rarely use % rating, but this one is 99%. Recoil shield and front of cyl look like the gun is unfired. Only the slightest trace of wear on one side of muzzle. Only a partial cyl ring that is faint. Two very tiny patches of faint freckles on one side of cyl are actually hard to find. A few very light and small handling marks. Grips are correct diamond magnas, but do NOT have matching number. Nice, nice gun. |

Shipped- Dec 23, 1955 to Jurek Bros Co, Greenfield, MA according to Roy Jinks, but no letter. It is high polish, Patridge, Plain Square notch, original magna grips. ALL numbers match. Light muzzle and edge wear. Numerous scattered hairlines and light handling marks. Some scratches on sides of cyl from laying it down. Perfect bore and a very smooth action. Sounds far worse than it looks. It is actually the very high end of shooter grade. A very decent old 1950. |

Shipped- March, 1955. All numbers match EXCEPT the grips which are the proper diamond magnas and fit superbly. A very clean gun except for one side of cyl between two flutes that has speckled blue loss from a case. There is a TINY patch of pitting in the bore one inch from muzzle. The bore is perfect otherwise with a great action. It appears to actually have been shot very little and still has a dark blue recoil shield. Should be a fabulous shooter at this bargain price. |

4 Screw, Pre Model 29. A totally original gun wearing a very pretty set of early Coke grips with one small ding on bottom edge of left grip. A decent holster gun with ½ inch triangles of muzzle wear and wear on the frame knuckle at top of backstrap. Has the expected scattered handling marks and a few micro freckles. Some dark splotches in matted area on top. Perfect bore. Slightly out of time, but the ratchet is clean and sharp, so a new hand will fix it. A decent Pre-29 for shooting and hunting. |
